I did get some on my skin but it washed off without leaving any stain marks, even after 35 minutes. It definitely did cover my roots and most of my grays. I only had a couple of grays here and there that were being stubborn. Overall this was much easier and less expensive than a trip to the salon. I think it also gave my hair a slightly lighter auburn hue, but it looks very natural.Show more  WSWSeptember 19, 2025  I took one star off of this color shampoo product because competitors offer 5-9 minutes for full gray coverage color and this is the first gray coverage shampoo that I’ve seen with such a long wait time for color change… 30-40 minutes! Perhaps it is because the product is milder which is better for the hair? I am not sure but the wait time- even for conventional hair dyes seems too long. The packaging is very nice and expensive looking and well put together. The bottle is Huge and it comes with a convenient pump dispenser, a 2 sided brush/comb combo and black gloves with uh is a thoughtful decision for neat reuse given that the dye is dark. The directions are clear. An extra plus with this product t is that is boasts to be stain- free on the skin. I am not sure how this would dye the hair but not stain the skin? Perhaps if wiped off easily and binds to hair not skin? This works really good, andthe color is a true dark brown color. Just know the more it's left on the hair the darker it becomes. I left it on for the recommended 7-9 minutes and my hair came out with great color. This also made my hair feel very soft and didn't cause any irritation to my scalp when I used it. The bottle is very nice looking too. She's tried several black hair dye shampoos, and this one definitely delivers rich, even color as long as you follow the directions closely. It covers grays well and leaves her hair looking shiny and fresh, which she loves. The key is timing. It works best if you leave it in for exactly 7 minutes. Any longer than that, and the color actually starts to lighten a bit, which is the opposite of what you’d expect. The first time she used it, she left it on closer to 10 minutes and noticed a slight brownish tint instead of the deep black she wanted. Now that she's got the timing right, she's really happy with the results. It’s quick, convenient, and doesn’t have that strong chemical smell like some other dye products. I've used it both ways and prefer to dampen my hair first. It seems to be less damaging that way. You do need to leave it on a little longer if you have resistant grays. It doesn't seem to damage my hair any more than it already is. Somehow even though I have to use half the bottle in just one use it seems to miss some of the grays. Maybe it's me? But it is fully saturated from what I can tell. My hair is shoulder length but thick. Is it worth it to only get 2 uses out of the bottle, maybe not. Though it really depends on the person's preference and thickness of hair. I started out with a lot of gray, and it definitely covered like it was supposed to. My hair feels soft and not dried out, which I love. The only downside is the color…this is supposed to be dark brown, but it’s giving more medium/reddish brown in my hair. It works well and is super easy to apply. I have long, but fine hair and one bottle lasts me a long time. What I like particularly about this brand is that it doesn't smell nasty like some of the others I have used. This box also comes with gloves and a brush. The first thing that I liked was that this hair color did not require you to mix several ingredients together. It comes premixed in a pump bottle, ready to use. It applies just like shampoo, and once on your hair needs about the same amount of time to process as any other hair color. I got the light brown, which was very similar to the "Brown Sugar" color I normally buy, and I really like it. Boxed hair dyes usually are one application only; this 500 ml. bottle is good for several applications, depending on how long your hair is and how often you color it. I have been using bottle dye since I was a teen and have been doing it myself my whole life. Once, only once, did I have it professionally done and once, only once, did a friend help. Let's just say that friend did no better than myself, but actually a little worse. Anyway, all you do is put the gloves on, pump a little into your palms, rub your hands together and start "finger painting" your roots. It's fantastic. It takes half the time than regular bottle dye to put on, there's no harsh chemicals, the color lasts for weeks and it makes my hair feel better than it has in years. I am already feeling my hair getting stronger with every wash and combing. I am 53, menopausal and my hair has been thinning for years. It's thinning less now and I do believe it is that I have not been using harmful hair color dyes on my hair for some time now. The formula is ammonia-free, so there’s no harsh smell, and it didn’t stain my skin, which is a big plus. My hair actually feels softer and more moisturized after using it, probably thanks to the argan oil and keratin unlike other brands which leave my hair dry and damaged. Application was very easy, just like regular shampoo, and the gloves and hair color applicator brush included were helpful. I left the dye in for about 45 minutes just to make sure all the dye gets absorbed then rinsed with water and proceeded with a color-safe conditioner. I have started having grey hair come in, but only around my temples and in certain areas around my part, not enough to make me feel like I should be going to the hair salon super frequently. I've been on the hunt for products that can extend the period in between colors, so gave this one a shot. In the past, temporary dyes and tinting shampoos haven't really done much, but I was really really pleased with how it came out! I put this on dry hair as that was the recommended approach- I love that it came with gloves as I never can find rubber gloves when I'm looking for them. I put this all over by my roots, clipped my hair up, and sat with it for 7-9 min. When I took a shower, I knew something had worked because i can feel a slight shift in texture that mimics how my hair feels after I visit the salon- it's kind of stiffer in the shower, but for only the first time. The pictures show the before and after, and I love it. It's not a permanent solution, but I did not need to go over any greys with a pen or powder, and that in and of itself is a great result. If your a natural brunette, this will leave you with dark brown hair with reddish golden highlights visible where the light shines. It looks very nice. You pump it out, mix it on gloved hands and apply to dry hair. You work it through like your shampooing your hair, then leave on for thirty minutes, rinse with water and your done. No need for conditioner as it leaves hair soft. The lather from working the product through your hair feels very silky. You don't smell any chemical or ammonia type scent in general. If you do take a whiff of the cream gel mixture then you smell the familiar hair dye scent. If your hair is short or mid length, you can get two hair dye jobs out of the bottle. It’s kind of really a great concept and definitely great for people who have gray. I just put it in the spots that I have some grays and it covers it right up. And you leave it in for about 10 to 20 minutes and that should do the job. It does not dry your hair out because it has no ammonia and just I really don’t see a difference in my hair only that it gets colored but no frizziness and no breakage.
